SPRINGFIELD M1861 RIFLE CUT DOWN TO 2 BAND CARBINE 1861
Original Civil War Springfield M1861 Rifle Musket that has been cut down to a 2 band carbine. Possible that this is a Richmond Alteration? The barrel is 25" and the total length is 41". The mechanics are fully functional with nice action. The lockplate is marked with Springfield maker mark and very desirable 1861 date. Has a brass nosecap and blacksmith made ramrod. Walnut stock is in good shape with normal wear and a few small cracks from service as shown in pics. Has two Springfield barrel bands and a total of 3 sling swivels. The barrel is mostly shot out but shows traces of the original rifling. A very cool weapon that will display strong in any collection and is the perfect fit for the Alabama Cavalry.
