Original Civil War Smith .50 cal Breechloading Smith Carbine. The Smith Carbine was patented by Gilbert Smith in 1857 and was used by various units in the Civil War. This example is in good condition but has been cleaned at some point. It still displays great and has the look of a very expensive Smith Carbine I just had with the Confederate Captured stamp in the stock. The mechanics are in good working condition with nice action. Has it's rear and front sight intact with a nice bore. The walnut stock is in good shape with usual wear from Civil War Service and one repaired plug. Has the "Poultney & Trimble Baltimore USA Address"& " Smith's Patent June 23rd, 1857. Also "Manufactured by Mass Arms Co. Chicopee Falls" on the back side of the frame. Serial number is 6125 and has a JH Military Inspector stamp on the Barrel. A very solid buy for the money. Please see all photos and call or write for more information.
