RICHMOND ARMORY 1863 CONFEDERATE RIFLE MUSKET CUT DOWN
Original Civil War Richmond Armory Confederate Rifle Musket that has been cut down to 45". Has a beautiful overall dark patina. The lock is fully functional and clicks tight in both positions. Has "CS" / Richmond VA stamped on the plate and the 1863 production date behind the hammer. Barrel has been cut down to 29 1/2". The wood stock has usual wear from service and has been shortened just past the first barrel band. No evidence of a cartouche on the back side opposite the lock. Two small pieces are MIA from the toe of the buttstock. Has a pretty brass buttplate and one "U" stamped barrel band. Both sights are MIA and the back has been partially filled in. The "V" and "P" Barrel Proofs are faintly visible. Bore is dirty and has no rifling. Confederate Soldier most likely converted his weapon to a shotgun for post war use. Beautiful gun for the money.
