Original Civil War D. Demarest M1859 McClellan Saddle with an amazing displaying patina. From the John Ashworth Collection and was on display for many years at The Carter House Museum.  Daniel Demarest was a saddle maker in Newark, NJ and was known for making quality products. The Government was having so many problems with the quality of saddles being produced, in 1863 inspectors required a Maker Tag be attached to each saddle in order to trace the product to the maker. This saddle has its original maker tag on the left front of the tree. The leather is supple and in great condition. The rawhide covering has really nice patina and mostly intact. Has a few damaged areas in the rear of the seat as shown in the pics. Comes with two original Regulation 1863 wood stirrups. The stirrup straps are reproduction but match the saddle great. Size 11 1/2" seat. Your chance to own an original Civil War Cavalry Saddle at an affordable price! Please see all photos
