Original Civil War Confederate Cavalry Sword and Scabbard in Museum Quality Condition. This is a very rare cavalry saber made by James Conning of Mobile , AL. He was under contract by the State of Alabama to produce 500 cavalry swords and this is an early serial number 25. The brass handle and pommel have a beautiful overall matching patina and both have 25 stamped serial number. Conning was known for using terrible materials for his grips and later discontinued using leather on his artillery swords. Most examples are found with the wrap MIA. This example has been beautifully restored and has some honest wear giving it a beautiful look for display. The confederate blade is in good condition with a nice tip with just a few small nicks from service. The scabbard is in great condition with a beautiful patina. Complete with the original iron throat, mounts and drag. Has a nicer than most cs lap seam with brass solder. Has a crazy amount of wear to the mounts showing many hours in the field. There are a couple of small holes as shown in the pics. Please see all photos. A great rare piece of history that will make a great addition to any Civil War Collection.
