CONFEDERATE JAMES CONNING FOOT OFFICERS SWORD MOBILE, AL
Original Civil War Confederate James Conning Foot Officers Sword with Leather Scabbard. James Conning produced swords for the State of Alabama as well as the Confederacy and was located in Mobile, AL. This is a beautiful example with a nice overall displaying patina. The guard has the classic James Conning Rose Floral Pattern. The pommel is undisturbed with a laurel leaf design. Has the original wrap and wire intact. The number 24 is stamped into the front side of the guard just above the blade as well as on the bottom of the pommel cap. The overall length is 35" and the blade is 29". Has the single unstopped fuller and has a dark gray patina with a few darker areas. Traces of the original etching can faintly be seen. There is a small amount of pitting in places as well as a couple very light nicks more felt than seen. The Leather Scabbard is a top stitch import example that fits and matches the sword really well. Complete with the throat, mount and drag. Please see all photos. Call or write for more info.
