COLT M1851 HARTFORD NAVY REVOLVER (1860) SN# 98503 WITH COLT FACTORY LETTER
Original Civil War Colt M1851 Hartford Navy Revolver with Colt Factory Letter. Very popular pre war 1860 production date. The Colt Letter shows it went to Colts Patent Fire-Arms Mfg. Company New York Office on January 15, 1861 in a shipment of 100 guns. This gun is in the same lot as many special Colt Navy Revolvers. 98433 went to Gravely & Pringle Charleston, SC 1/15/1862 in a shipment of 50 guns. 98828 was also shipped to South Carolina 1/03/1861 in a shipment of 60 guns, 99051 & 99182 all went to James Conning in Mobile, AL.
The mechanics are functional with working action. The barrel has the Hartford Address with original brass bead sight and nice rifling remaining. The walnut grips are in good shape with lots of honest wear from service. Has one small section missing in the toe of the grip. Has some kill mark notches on both side of the handle. Has matching numbers except for an original Colt Loading Lever and original unmarked wedge. An overall nice example with lots of great history for a great price. Please see all photos for condition.
