Original Civil War Burnside 5th Model .54 cal Cavalry Carbine. Approximately 43,000 5th model carbines were produced 1863-1865 and this example has an early 1531 serial number. This example is very similar to the 3rd/4th model but has an added hinge to the center section of the breech block for easier loading of the weapon. Also a guide screw in the center of the right frame. The mechanics are fully functional with very nice crisp action. The loading lever moves freely and secures tight. The barrel is full length and has nice rifling remaining. The rear leaf sight and front sight are intact. The walnut stock is in good shape with normal wear from service. Does have one crack near the buttplate as shown in the pics. Has two inspector cartouches in the left side of the stock. Please see all photos.
