Original Civil War Ames M1860 Cavalry Sword and Scabbard with 1860 production date and a star stamped pommel. This is one of a contract of 1,200 swords that were bought by the state of Virginia for Jeb Stuarts Cavalry. This is from the collection of Lewis Leigh and still has his inventory tag. The sword handle and pommel have a perfect beautiful aged patina. Has the inspector stamp initials of JH and a great example of the Star Stamp on the Pommel. The original leather wrap and wire are intact with places worn down to the wood. The blade is full length with minimal nicks more felt than seen. Has the Ames Maker Mark on one side of the blade and 1860 date on the reverse. Scabbard is in good shape with a few dents from service. An overall really nice dark patina. The original throat and both mounting rings are intact. Please see all photos.
