Original Pre Civil War Ames M1860 Cavalry Sword and Scabbard with the very desirable and very rare 1858 production date. The sword has a beautiful overall dark attic untouched patina and just off the battlefield look. The brass handle is tight to the blade and has the curved quillon period modification done by the Cavalry soldier. The leather wrap is mostly intact and the wire has been professionally restored. The undisturbed pommel has the Ames inspector initials stamp. The blade is full length with a nice point. Has the Ames Maker Mark on one side and the U.S. / 1858 / Inspector initials on the reverse. Has very minimal nicks more felt than seen and hasn't been sharpened. The scabbard has a nice look and has both mounting rings. There is one split and dent in the back seam as shown in pics and does not have the throat. The drag is also stamped with the inspector initials and is original to the sword. The leather sword knot is missing all of its fringe but still looks awesome for display. A great Civil War Relic that is worthy of any Museum or Collection. Please see all photos.
