Original Civil War Maynard Model 2 carbine with possible ID to William T. Glover of the 1st Alabama Cavalry Union (SN#22131). I got this gun from Brian Akins of Rebel Relics. When we received it had been brought into a gun store in Alabama from family with the ID William T. Glover 28th AL CS Infantry. I realize Confederate Troops used what they could acquire sometimes and the South made ammunition for these weapons but it doesn't seem likely to me that it would be used by Infantry. When I was researching for myself I found a name William J. Glover with alternate name (William T. Glover) in the 1st Alabama Cavalry Union (See last photo). It's possible that I'm wrong and was used by Confederate Infantry Soldier but with the Federal Cartouche in the stock and being a carbine I believe it to be William T. Glover of 1st Alabama Cavalry Union. The gun has a really nice overall dark displaying patina. Has the Maynard Mass Arms Stamp on the right side of the frame and Patent Info on the left side. The walnut stock is in great shape with normal wear from service with two government cartouche stamps and the initials W T G carved into the left side of the stock. Also has "Ala" scratch on right corner of the stock near the buttplate. (Not sure exactly when that was done.) Complete with the front and rear sights and has rifling remaining in the barrel. The mechanics are functional with working action and the hammer clicks in both positions. The firing nipple has been removed and blocked. Great research project!
